    Cats Meow, New Orleans
The World Famous Cats Meow first opened its doors in December of 1989. At the time, karaoke in America was in it's infancy and we were one of the first bars to try out the new entertainment concept. In less than a year, Cats Meow became the largest "on premise" account for both Miller and Budweiser products in the New Orleans area.

    World Famous Arnaud's Restaurant
This New Orleans restaurant leader of the culinary old guard is serving up tradition in a menu that benchmarks the Creole classics, many created here, such as succulent Oysters Bienville and Shrimp Arnaud, chilled boiled shrimp marinated in a homemade remoulade sauce. Most meals begin with air-puffed pommes souffle accompanied by delicious Bearnaise sauce. Another traditional old favorite often follows, Trout Meuniere, a crisply fried fillet of fresh speckled trout bathed in a velvety sauce of veal stock, lemon and butter and served with crunchy brabant potatoes.

I ran away from home at age 16 to marry. At age 40 I became an over the road line haul truck driver. In my 50's I became involved in recording Cajun music. Now I work to preserve my Cajun music culture through our youngsters.

    Reunion de la Famille Boudreaux
The logo for the Boudreaux / Boudreau Family Association is divided into four parts by a gold cross in the center which represents Catholic and Christian faith. The two flags represented on the logo are the Acadian flags of Louisiana and Canada. The Acadian flag of Louisiana is a tricolor flag with three fleurs de lys on a blue field which represents France, the maternal country of our ancestors; the gold castle of Castile on a red field represents Spain. It was Spain that came to the aid of the Acadians exiled in France from 1755 to 1785; and the gold star on a white field represents the patroness of the Acadians, Our Lady of the Assumption.

    Zachary Richard
Singer, songwriter and poet, Zachary Richard was born and raised in Southwest Louisiana. His music is influenced by the styles typical of the region, Cajun, Zydeco and New Orleans rhythm and blues, but he has always gone beyond the limitations of any particular style, creating his own musical gumbo. With "Cap Enragé," his thirteenth album, Zachary Richard has taken a new direction. His first all French language recording in over ten years, this new collection can be characterized by a subtlety, present but not always as much in evidence on his previous recordings.

    Rayne
What is it about frogs that captivates our imagination? In a small town in the middle of Louisiana's Cajun prairie, a stone's throw from New Orleans, is a town called Rayne, where frogs have gained iconographic stature. Frogs and Rayne have a relatively long history that dates back to the 1880s, when a gourmet chef named Donat Pucheu started selling juicy, delectable bullfrogs to New Orleans restaurants. Word of Rayne's frog delicacies spread like wildfire, and soon attracted the Weill Brothers from France, who started a lucrative business exporting frogs to restaurants. For years, world-renowned restaurants like Sardi's in New York boasted of offering frog legs from Rayne, Louisiana.

    Old-Time Cajun Recipes
People all over the country are familiar with the old song about jambalaya and file' gumbo. Cajun cooking has been put into the national, and even international, spotlight by chefs like Paul Prudhomme and Justin Wilson. I won't bore you with Cajun recipes that you can find in almost every cookbook. I have searched the web and I have found many supposedly authentic Cajun recipes. Things like chili, goulash , salmon recipes????

We are located on the west side of the Atchafalaya Basin Protection Levee. The LCPA-WEST benefits crawfisherman, fisherman, trappers, shrimpers, hunters, photographers, tourists, canoers, bird watchers, or anyone else who uses our nation's navigable water bottoms. The vast majority of our state's coastal wetlands are claimed by private out of state corporate interest, even though millions of dollars of federal moneys are spent, we have no public access. There are forces at work to do the same to the Atchafalaya Basin, one of our nation's last natural wildernesses. Help us fight to keep our water ways free forever!

CUSTOM TOURS: THE LOUISIANA EXPERIENCE IN NATURE & CULTURE
I am a permanent resident of the Atchafalaya Basin. Born on the banks of Bayou Teche in New Iberia, I grew up hunting and fishing in the swamps and marshlands of south central Louisiana with my father. I have lived on a houseboat in the Atchafalaya Basin for ten years working as a commercial fisherman and later as a full-time tour guide. In order to share my appreciation of this unique wilderness area, in 1984 I began offering custom trips for small groups and individuals. Today I still do boat tours but I also offer a full range of land-based cultural tours and adventure-oriented ecotours.

    Town of Lockport
Lockport, founded in 1835, traces its history to Jacques Lamotte, who in 1790 owned a large tract of land along Bayou Lafourche. Lemotte sold a portion of the tract to Messrs. Mercier and Marcantel in 1814. In 1823 William Field purchased a parcel of the land and later donated 5 arpents of it on both banks of Bayou Lafourche to Barataria and Lafourche Canal Company. As part of the transaction, the company agreed to build a canal, which would link Bayou Terrebonne to New Orleans. Allou D'Hemecourt surveyed the area in 1835. His map bears the name Longueville. Eventually, the village's name would become Lockport.

    The Pellegrin Family Tree
IN THE EARLY 1700's , Joseph Martin Pellegrin and Catharina Julienne began the Pellegrin Story. Joseph and Catharina were born in Toulon, France. Their son, Jean Laurent Pellegrin, came to America in the late 1700's. He married Marie Catherine Andras. Catherine's family, the Andras, also came from the southern coast of France. In all of the research done so far on the Pellegrin family everything traces back to the southern coast of France. There are many Pellegrinos, Pellegrinis, Pellerins, and Pellegrins living in this area of France and in northern Italy. Did the Pellegrins come from Italy? Only when we trace Joseph Martin Pellegrin's ancestors will we know the answer. The word "Pellegrin" means Pilgrim.

    Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival
A Different Kind of Festival Just about any weekend, somewhere in Louisiana there’s a festival celebrating one of the joys found in the state where Laissez Les Bon Temps Roule is a way of life. Many of these are a celebration of the food, especially the seafood – shrimp, crabs, fish, crawfish, and oysters – that make this area a gourmet’s paradise for residents and a legend around the world. This bounty we enjoy is only possible because of the rich, watery landscape of rivers, bayous, marshes and lakes we have in southeastern Louisiana, a populace that has made harvesting these resources a central part of their culture for over three hundred years, and a unique collection of boats that has evolved to operate in this maritime environment. Every year, St. Tammany hosts a tribute not to seafood, but to the hand crafted wooden boats that originally made it possible for us to enjoy these marine delicacies. This year on October 16th and 17th, the 15th annual Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival will return to the banks of the Tchefuncte River. Hundreds of boats will line the banks of the Tchefuncte River and as many as 30,000 wooden boat, music, food and craft enthusiasts are expected to attend some or all of the activities on what is typically a lovely fall weekend. In addition to the craftsmanship and mystique of building, owning and operating classic wooden boats, both locals and visitors from near and far are drawn to this one of a kind festival by its wide variety of attractions and activities designed for the whole family. Visitors are fascinated by the beautifully restored and maintained wooden boats themselves, and can also sample a wide assortment of Louisiana food favorites and shop at craft booths selling marine-related products, art, and handmade craft items. Each day, at a venue dubbed “Woodenstock,” a lineup of top popular local musical groups like the Blue Meanies, Four Unplugged, the Chee Wheez, and the Topcats will play. The always popular Children’s Village with a new lineup of entertainment and activities especially designed for the young ones should be more popular than ever this year, and the annual “Quick and Dirty Boat Race” will draw thousands of spectators to see if boats that were hastily built in a few hours on Saturday can stay afloat on Sunday. The festival is the primary source of funding for the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum, which has a mission of researching, preserving, and displaying to the public the incredibly rich maritime history of Lake Pontchartrain and the waterways flowing in and out of it. Since opening its first exhibits a little over a year and a half ago, the Museum has assembled a collection that has been extremely well received by visitors, who do not expect to find something of this size and quality in the quaint little town of Madisonville.
